Studio Openings

January 26th, 2008

Big Apple Power Yoga320 West 37th Street, Suite 10D212.868.YOGA What has our Big Apple been missing by way of yoga styles? Baron Baptiste’s Power Vinyasa Yoga, of course. Crisp, shiny, and new, and finally on the streets of New York, Big Apple Power Yoga is the first and only studio devoted faithfully to teaching Baron Baptiste’s Power Vinyasa Yoga, and for a new studio, this place is already drawing in a good crowd. Yes, there are other spots to practice rigorous yoga sequences in heated rooms, but there’s something about Baptiste and his teachers that really entices eager yoga enthusiasts. It must be the sweet combination of “strength, sweat and surrender.” Expect nothing by way of décor, though: Chrome lockers and shelves, white cubbies, red yoga straps hung on white walls, and a few racks of clothes is all you’ll get. In fact, the place is pretty bare except for a NYC skyline painted on the front wall of the one practice room. There’s only one bathroom, which houses one toilet and one shower, which can definitely make things feel a bit jammed up. No matter though—after the intense practice the pure euphoria kicks in and no one seems to mind.
